Yeah he might have other things on his mind, so maybe he needs people who are taking up these people's cause to help inform him to make the right decision. Also Jared Kushner and Ivanka are working on Prison reform and Jared has worked with Kim on this specific case. But nope it took Kim K to convince the President.
