Though no one cares, the "left/right" bias is universal, across all nations and cultures. It's been studied to death. It manifests itself in slightly different ways and there are some cultural influences in moral reasoning, but overall, the same exact division exists... regardless of race or class.
It's an evolutionary trait relating to group selection. Great decisions come through fierce argument. Those decisions which can threaten or destroy the group are those where no one raises their hand and voices an objection and where no debate argument ensues.
For that argument to exist and for every big issue to be argued to the end, where the middle is then defined, all arguments for and against have been heard for for the compromise to rise to the surface it is not in anyone's benefit to "see the other side" from an evolutionary standpoint. "Seeing the other side" leads to less debate, less argument and less discussion and as such, leads to more risk to the survival of the group.
It's basic evolutionary biology relating to group selection and the more effective cooperation of groups..
Science bitches!
Personally, i'm just tired of being attacked for almost 10 years now for being less than human, for being racist for having an opinion, for being xenophobic for being concerned about 10s of millions of illegals in the country or for being hateful and greedy for wanting low taxes and a strong economy by smug, self righteous assholes who can act that way, behave in the most vile manner imaginable, consistently attack people in really vicious ways and then at the same time break their own arms patting themselves on the back for being morally superior. And when cornered "I only act that way because...you,..." is the always the response, taking no personal responsibility whatsoever.
There are a number of reasons for the different ways we view issues with respect to how we process moral questions (which is what lie at the heart of left/right), why we are blind to those of the other and I could break it all down in extreme detail but no one would read it and it would change nothing.
