Ideally, Star Trek should be watched by chronology because many things are interlinked, mentioned and linked to the previous series. It is more interesting to watch it that way.

I remember that some foreign friends were downloading episodes because they had a faster connection back then and they were sending me CDs by mail

I was trying to watch it multiple times and was extremely boring. I am aware that I am doing it not so much for fun but because of thing you mentioned above and like a cultural heritage. Still, I didn't make it.
