Man, these sanctions have never worked in Russia. Just because the mutual Russian-US trading is nothing (only a couple of % in our economics:
https://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c4621.html). We trade with the EU, China and Latin America, but not with the USA.
In fact, the US sanctions work well only for Putin. When we have any economical probes, the bald guy screams that it's not because he is a loser who can't lead the country but... because of evil America! Believe me or not, but that's true. There are no American sanctions against me as a Russian citizen personally (just because I'm absolutely impermanent from you), but 90% of people are not smart enough to understand how it really works - most of them don't even speak English and never been to the States. So they believe to everything that Putin says and the US sanctions is one of the key things that keep him in power, because the USA is a kind of boogeyman to be blamed for every local fault.
