One of the things I hate about politics the most is people who suddenly slap a American flag pin on their chest and instantly become patriotic. It's disgusting. Being patriotic isn't wearing a pin when it suits you.
While I don't believe a US President should be required to have military service.... If your family goes back five generations and NO ONE served in the US military, well, don't you dare wear a fucking American flag pin on your suit.
Off the top of my head I can only name two - Obama and McCain.
Obama was a Senator and then President for eight years, and not a hint of scandal.
McCain has a long history. I loved him when he went to Vietnam, called them gooks, and stuck to his guns. He said "They locked me up for years and tortured me" and no matter what in his eyes they will always be "gooks". Still to this day he has balls.

so too many superhero movies set the bar for politicians.
everyone has a right to their Fourth of July moment, we don't have to reach whatever standard you have set for that to feel patriotic.
I voted for Obama both terms and for McCain once and neither one come anywhere near the high standard I would set, especially based on their words and promises. In fact, in many many ways, neither even reached my low standard.
elected officials, people with badges, and athletes have proven to me time and time again that they are just regular folks like me and are not capable of maintaining everyone's personal definition of what their standard in life should be.
