I think 3D printing is an awesome technology. But sooner or later, you can count on some fuckstick to think of this kind of BS to do with it, and put a bad light on the technology. Or who knows, maybe it was thought of by some manufacturer who felt their business would be threatened by 3D printing.
I look forward to the day when 3D printers will only need to use protons, neutrons, and electrons as ink. Then people can print bars of gold, diamonds, or even a 19yo Cindy Crawford.
You could remotely print an exact copy of yourself on the other side of the globe, eliminating the need for travel. The scan process would need to be so detailed that it would effectively destroy and kill your original body. But in your head, all you know is one minute you were in New York, next minute you're in Toyko.
But why stop there? A 3D printer probe could be put on Mars, allowing you to arrive there in about 10 minutes.
Possibilities are endless.
