The key issue here is that Muller's investigation then took over the previous Comey investigation but it also had a new and completely different secondary focus and that is Obstruction of justice

My bet is Kushner and Jr go down for collusion over the meetings and lying on their security clearances and Trump along with Nunes and a few others go down for Obstruction of justice.
For the record there will be other crimes as well.. Conspiracy, tax evasion, money laundering and so forth.. expect to see a case like we see with Manafort now.

And this is where Trump's complete and utter lack of experience comes into play. Trump and his family knows nothing about politics. They couldn't see that by firing Comey it not only didn't solve their problem and end the investigation, but only ensured it would continue and now with new problems.
