Why do you think they let Trump go as far in the presidential race? Because the DNC wanted it. They thought he would easily lose to pawn Clinton. Why do you think Trump got the GOP ticket? Because the GOP also thought he would easily lose to pawn Clinton.
DNC and GOP both didn't expect a non-pawn, someone who is hard to control, to win. They put all of their money on Clinton because they're extremely arrogant. Their arrogance was their demise - same as the UK government allowing the Brexit referendum. Also very arrogant, because they genuinely expected a different outcome.
They don't even think about the possibility that people can think for themselves. So they didn't expect that Trump could be president, as they didn't expect a yes vote for Brexit.
