Well Texas is a lot like the US as a whole.. there is strong liberal pockets in the big cities but the rural areas are heavily conservative. The problem is even if there are more people voting Democrat its usually isolated to a handful of districts but a lessor population can still win by holding more rural districs.

Due to this, for a Democrat to win, it usually requires a much, much bigger suppprt than for a Republican to win.

Orourke seems to be pretty popular and Cruz is not very popular so it seems Orourke might have a chance. I dont really know much about him though as I dont vote in Texas. I will still be very suprised if he wins, because despite how unpopular Cruz is, Republicans have a long history of circling the wagons to vote party 1st as attempt to stop a Democrat from winning.

There is a extra bit of pressure on Republicans this time around as I think they had to redraw their districts because they were illegally gerrymandered.. (I maybe wrong but I thi k Texas was one of the states that was ruled to be illegally gerrymandered)

I still get a kick out of all these loony Tea Party guys that rode their wave to seats in Congress championing "term limits" and voting out incumbents.. Yet here the same guys are running 10 years later not saying a word about term limits..
