Pretty much the entire Seattle area including Tacoma, Federal Way, Bellevue etc is expensive and the I-5 is usually one big parking lot.
If you don't mind the desert and around a 4hr drive over to Seattle, there's always the east side of the state. Yakima, Spokane, Tri-Cities are fairly big. Though driving over the passes in the winter can be pretty dangerous or non existent if they close them.
