Sessions will announce his resignation after the election. When his last set day is remains to be seen. My guess is before the democrats takes their seats next year.

So that leaves a bit of a dilemma doesn't it. For trump anyway.

He can't fire him or congress will have hearings on the whole thing.
He has more experience in the Justus dept than anyone else and should be in that top job.
His qualifications are much higher than sessions is or ever would be.
Trump needs a reason to not move him up to that top spot. It is his one chance to get rid of this without triggering a congressional investigation.

How is he going to do it ?

Even if he does just resign after meeting with trump, it will likely trigger congressional investigations. Just to hear him say/show/prove on the record that there was no undo influence in the matter. Because it it reaching that point of non-believably with his own party outside of those who get their spin handed to them on how to think about it.

Looks bad, smells bad because it is that bad !
