Nothing would be better than the American workers being charged hidden tariff taxes on everything they purchase, and you the tax payer having to bail out your farmers. All while your Government is borrowing more money from.. China
Numerous new business opportunity's would of arisen with free trade agreements, was just upto American business to take advantage of them.
It would of slowed the growth of China without pissing off.. the Chinese, and that's the big one because if the Chinese consumer turns against you, your country is totally fucked as they are the only major growing market.

SoyBeans are a classic example, even if tariffs are removed.. that business is never coming back to America like it was before, all tariffs achieved was to force China to seek out new sources and enter in new LONG term deals.
