What was left to be done there? As everyone made clear the statute of limitations likely had run out if there were a crime. The "investigation" didn't turn up solid evidence so what would the use of continuing it be? He was confirmed, the story was over.
I get the point of exploiting it for political gain but they are two different things. All that said, can't we just call a spade a spade? The Kavanaugh hearings were political theater that Fienstein could have avoided had she gone public with the accusations right when she learned about them. Sending troops to the border and making hysterical videos about the Caravan is also political theater.
