Here they have a list with your name on, and once you've shown an official ID with a photo of yours on it (i.e. passport or driver license) you get crossed of the list and you're allowed to vote.
You're also allocated to a certain location to vote, you can't just go anywhere. And only people on the official list are allowed to vote at that location. You can also vote by mail and have to sign it and give other info on the paper ballot.

How does that work in the US?
In California we have districts where only people from your area can vote at a polling station.

1) You goto the person at the desk

2) They ask your name & address and they confirm it in their records.

3) They have you sign next to your name on the ledger and write in your address by hand.

4) They give you a voter code to punch into the machine so you can vote

5) You vote at the machine

6) After voting the machine prints out your votes

7) You confirm the paper copy is correct and hit Yes. Your vote is complete.

So for someone to cheat they need to know your address, know that you aren't signed up to vote by mail, know you haven't voted yet & have a signature like yours.

Different states have different rules & procedures for voting it's stupid.
