I have family in Christchurch and it's sad, every water pipe in every street needs to be checked before it can be declared ok to drink, after every after shock that needs checked again incase there's a break or a split... 7 years later there still getting what is classed as after shocks...
You can't call an insurance person to your place.. because every other insured person is doing the same, and even when you do you need them back next week cos that small crack in wall on Monday... made the garage wall fall down after the next 300 aftershocks by Friday, then think about what , 20,000+ aftershocks do to your brain and mental health
It's the after shocks that eat your soul and they can be relentless.
Not one person I know left, they get on with their lives and rebuild, but mentally there's a huge strain.
