You know what? I wonder about that myself.
I had science as far back as grade 4 I think. It was my favourite part of the school day. My parents also encouraged me with scientific toys. I had thinks like a microscope, 100-in-1 electronics kit (a few of them actually), crystal radios, hand-cranked generator, see-through gardens, chemistry sets, a weather station that despite having no electronic parts could be used to predict the weather, etc. All of these "toys" reinforced my interest in science in school, and what I learned in school helped me get the most of those toys.
Science should be taught everywhere.
