I really like to show how some 'hoax' stories get started.
A few years ago, a discovery was made in lake Michigan. It was a Stonehenge like structure all discovered by mistake while doing some sonar readings of the lake floor.
Anyway, divers went down to have a peek and this is what they confirmed.

Now because of a discovery of the carving of a elephant on a stone, one 'SMART PERSON?' made a claim that mastodons were in north America while people inhabited it.
And they continued to date the find 10's of thousands of years older than it is.

Now someone else comes along to rightfully say that is not possible. Many call the whole find a hoax.

Now, to show you there is a truth to this find, just not the one being presented to you.
From the Soper and Savage story I mentioned above, folks were migrating here from mid-east areas in large numbers 1750BC and perhaps earlier, but I would mention your biblical story of Joseph who was Sobek's right hand man that came to what we know as the Americas bringing back grains to Egypt and thwarting famine. And is why he is so much of a hero.

But at that time, in the mid-east areas, they had 'war-ing elephants', yes used in battle probably much before this time but were continued to be a celebrated animal.

So now you know why it is there and when it was put there.
But, as all of this history leads me to one other favorite topic that can tell other stories of history like geology. Why is this all 12 meters below the waters surface ? and the level of the great lakes have been shrinking ! I have already tied those findings to figure out how they got those ships through the St Lawrence seaway to the lakes.
A story for some other time.

But here is a story from the web that may not be the best. Just wanted to give you some additional reading on the topic.

Don't take a pass on science just because someone makes a outrageous claim. Stick to the facts.
