Prisons — Tougher or Kinder?

I saw Inside The World’s Toughest Prisons today and it got me thinking hard. All foreign locations and brutal. Then they went to Hanley Norway or similar spelling .

NO BARS OR HANDCUFFS

The guards treat everyone with respect and humanity. Walk in and they shake your hand. No cells; individual rooms with bed, desk, dresser, fridge, television, bathroom with shower and toilet is spotless. Guards mingle with prisoners and sit close without fear. They walk outside uncuffed when they want. $100,000 recording studio available, jobs for anyone and your own clothing. If you don’t work or go to school, you’re locked in. Students really try hard to learn and enjoy it. You get one prepared meal a day. The other two meals you cook, whatever you want. Knives are given freely. Spotless kitchen and they shop in the store and buy whatever food they want. Money is from your job.

True rehabilitation and they leave skilled The garages train mechanics with every piece of equipment there is. The floor and walls you can eat off of, they’re so clean. Building has white, unmarked walls and floors. They’re taught to keep clean and neat.

Rarely a fight or problem. They can’t leave but otherwise are free. They’re happy, busy, learning for a future.

If we had that, our recidivism rate (% going back to jail) would be less than the 80% it is now. Norway is 20% and the longest sentence you can get is 21 years.

Our prisons suck at rehab, job training, and teaching the need to be good. Treat these guys with respect and decency and they respond. Give them an opportunity for the future. They’re taught they are not worthless, useless or stupid.

It’s really shocking how foreign prisons are run. The drugs, weapons and other contraband are easily found. Murder is rampant, beatings are daily occurrences, no heat, no air, no good food, no anything.

Norway proves that decent treatment over abuse works. Trust works. Give people a chance and see what happens.

I’m curious if anyone else has watched it on Netflix. I’m on season three in foreign countries and some are so disgusting and decrepit that animals couldn’t survive. No beds, no privacy, twelve to a room, rampant drugs, vermin, disease and weapons that will shock you.

Anti-Semites have Small Penis Syndrome. The only known treatment is electroshock therapy combined with cerebellum removal. Fortunately, it’s a tiny procedure.
