Google CSE Help
I’m substituting the Wordpress search engine for the Google CSE. I have the code but haven’t customized it yet.
I’m assuming that the page I need to edit is index.php. I’ll hide the standard search engine rather than deleting it.
I can’t remember my coding and have a rough idea how to edit, but need to be sure. I need to edit index.php and paste in the code Google gives then edit that with custom text. Nothing big, just adding SEARCH THIS SITE FOR .......... I’ll have categories but if users want more specific results then a search engine is there.
For placement, I’ll either stick with the current location, or place it under the header across the entire page.
SEARCH HERE FOR [. ] YOUR ..........
I’m willing to try it but I think users are used to the top of left sidebar. Changes throw people off.
Am I right about the code? Any hints or tips on placing the code and customizing it? I’m also interested in tightening the search so results are accurate. For example, if they search ‘Pam’ I don’t want ‘spam’ to show up.
This is the best alternative to buying a script. Eventually I’ll spring for the real thing once the site takes off in about a year. Santa didn’t leave a script under my bush 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
