If you'll recall, people in politics before that were quite polite and cordial no matter what their differences were. They also worked to come together on at least some issues. The language was always "my colleagues across the aisle" and similarly polite phrases.

Obama started his Presidency with "the party of no" and "obstructionists" and talking shit non stop about "republicans" as if there wasn't supposed to be debate on any political issue or differences. He then continually ratched up that rhetoric through both terms. Forgetting that he was continually alienating 1/2 the voting public. It's easy to dismiss when he's rhetoric appealed to you. But you should give pause to think about how that made 1/2 of the voting public of the nation feel, everytime he gave one of his self righteous, "if you're not with me, you're on the side of wrong" speeches.

The voting public pushed back with a huge "fuck you" to the previous 8 years and elected the polar opposite. A loudmouthed, arrogant, orange looking baboon of a reality TV star.

Democrats share the blame for that.

So what I see is a party who is insanely pissed off that they are not being treated exactly as they treated others - along with a complicit media.
You make it sound like the Republicans didn't filibuster everything Obama did including many of his nominees for various positions. They filibustered at an historic level never seen before. They said no to anything and everything Obama tried to do, not because what he was doing was bad but because it was him. Did Obama push back? Sure. Did he alienate some people because of it? Sure. But let's not put our heads in the sand and act like the Republicans didn't bring this shit on themselves. Also, if Obama was divider than what is Trump? In my lifetime I can't remember the country every being more divided.

I would love for the partisanship to end and our leaders to work together. I doubt it will happen anytime soon. It will never happen when people try to drop most of the blame on the opposing party without taking responsibility for their part in all this horseshit.

BTW much of this partisanship started when Clinton was in the White House and Newt Gingrich came to power and he turned the Republicans into the party of "no." Read the book The Red and The Blue. It's an eye opener that shows just how we got where we are today.
