First, I question your 250 number. According to wikipedia there are around 65 Holocaust museums or memorials in the United States.

As far as why there would be more museums in the United States then many other places it is because virtually half the world's Jewish population lives in the United States.
It has nothing to do with what percentage of the U.S. population is Jewish and has everything to do with how much of the Jewish population is American.
