There's a reason why brothels are legal in Australia and it's all historical.
In the mid 1800s there was a gold rush in Victoria that brought people from all over the world. Along with the diggers came the people who supplied the diggers with supplies and that included pub owners and brothel madams.
Prostitution is entrenched in Australian history and in most states controls on prostitution have only been enforced when it suited police.
In all but two States in Australia brothels are legal. Prostitution is legal in most of Australia.
Contrast this to porn and it's another story. It's also a historical fact that censorship has existed for the entire period of federation and in the colonies or states prior. Censorship is now a federal government issue, being in the realm of the commonwealth. There is a body that classifies films, video games, books and other media into categories such as G, PG, MA, R & X.
Most content on sites like Pornhub could not legally be sold in Australia, it would be refused classification. The government already strictly controls porn 'published' in Australia. Any 'porn ban' would simply be an extension of the existing classification system to porn sites and an Internet Filter.
They have tried to do this before under John Howard almost 20 years ago, they'll probably try it again before the next election because it will be a conservative vote winner.
