A visit to my general doctor costs around $700 for a 30 minute visit.
The US is the only modern country on the planet that does nothing to regulate what pharmaceuticals can charge and what hospitals can charge. We pay more for health care than any other country yet our life expectancy is actually going down.

OMG FRED IS RIGHT (this time) !!!
The ROOT of the problem is PRICE-GOUGING. There are medical device manufacturers charging $14,000 for a device that costs $300 to manufacture. Hospitals charge $20 for an aspirin, $8 for tissues, $53 for latex gloves (more if they're sterile), $23 for an alcohol swab, etc. etc. And this is all legal. Add to this the massive amount of fraud in the healthcare industry.
But the politicians are getting kickbacks from these companies so they don't consider anti-price gouging legislation
