The reality of the problem comes down to education as far as racial diversity among men in politics.
The simple fact is politics is typically a white collar job. That usually means college education but of course it's not required but usually to get to that point it's a given.
Now white males are going to have a higher percent of college educated vs most other races. This means there is a higher proportion of white males with the toolset to get into politics.
The key is IMO is access to education. Hence the reason Republicans try to make that hard to obtain for minority groups.
As for women, my guess is up until Trump politics wasnt really a job many women would be interested in doing meaning their are far fewer candidates.
