I like these stories, so I'll share mine.
Bought a car in the late 90s from a private seller.
Paid off the bank but the title was not forthcoming after several weeks.
After the temporary plates expired the bank admitted they lost the title and had to get another.
So I rented a car... a red Ford Mustang was 'all they had'...
It was about a month before I received the new title from the bank.
I sent them the invoice for the car (just under 1k) but they refused to pay so I filed in small claims court.
Halfway through one of their lawyers called and offered half and I said no.
A couple days before court I was overnighted a check for the full amount + court costs.
Yay.
