Yeah, it was read incorrectly, no contemporary of those times spelled out the acronym.

The PET was of course 6502 based, the MZ80K was a LH-0080 (Z-80 compatible) system.



I preferred 6502 based machines after I moved on from my Altair which was 8080 based.

The reason for this was that programming the 6502 in machine code was much simpler because it had a relatively small instruction set and would run 4 times faster than an 8080 or Z-80 at the same clock speed. There were also many more readily available chips for adding functionality to machines, such as the AY series synthesiser chips.

The 6502 machine I used for most of the lated 70s to mid 80s was the Ohio Scientific Challenger 4P which was maxed out with all sorts of add ons.
