One could argue that the game can be recorded and watched "at any damn day of the week and that you don't need to watch it now because broadcasters say you should".
I think the point is to remind her that by sacrificing one night out of the year for her, you're reminding her that SHE is the priority in your life.
I know that it's easy to argue that every day you show it with the little things, but women also love symbolism and Valentine's Day symbolizes the embodiment of the sum of those little things.
