I'm not surprised.
I grew up in Vancouver, Washington & Portland on the opposite side of the Columbia River. I've said many times here that I grew up with racists in Vancouver and one of the schools I went to, with hundreds of kids, had just one black kid, he was new. Over a few weeks they psychologically tortured that kid eventually beat him up and in the end ran the family out of town.
They are good people but many there are afflicted with the fear and the ignorance of racism. The good old boy network runs deep in the northwest. I love the Northwest it's so beautiful there the only reason I left is the weather, too much rain.
