I do almost the same thing, but minus the football
I have ipvanish as a reliable, simple to use tool in my toolkit, that enables me to test stuff out from different locations. Sure, from time to time I use it to access content in regions other than the UK, just not football...
As for privacy, I don't really know about that, cause its not really the reason I use it... So YMMV
