I once knew a guy who was good looking but "off." Would reintroduce himself the first dozen or so times you met. Would launch right into topics he was interested in, as if everyone shared his enthusiasm for the subject. Overall impression was a child in a late 20-something year old's body.
Apparently he had been high and driving his motor-cycle when he had an accident that resulted in head trauma. The absolute worst thing about this is that he KNEW what had happened to him and was aware of his impairments. His family was wealthy, so he didn't have to worry about his finances and occupied himself by speaking at schools about the dangers of drugs. But that wasn't enough. Eventually, he committed suicide.
I think suicide is awful - especially for those who are left behind. But if someone is so completely miserable in life, is it our place to tell them that they must endure?
"You have to endure the unbearable, because the idea of suicide makes me feel bad." That's pretty fucked up.
