Yes, and it has happened to me (not the youtube part). An obvious female that I had never met lost "her" shit when I called her by that pronoun. Her friend later told me that "she" prefers to be referred to as "they."
How was I supposed to know this when I had never before met "them?" and how where "they" justified in screaming and yelling? I felt like it was abusive to me for something that I was not guilty of doing.
After that, I'm entirely against the whole movement. It's just bullshit. I could deal with a kind mention of preference, but this is obviously just an attention-seeking scheme and an excuse to be an asshole.
