There are wind turbines just outside of Montreal - I have visited them up close. They make sound that for sure some would call annoying. But dangerous? No.
When I was a kid my family and I used to live in Montreal East. We were about half a mile away from an oil refinery (Texaco I think). Not only was it noisy, there were smoke stacks pouring out all kinds of things, along with giant torches burning off excess oil.
As a kid I thought it looked like a city because it was all lit up at night. And when my Dad and I would return from a weekend trip to our country house in St. Sauveur Quebec, the incredible smell would it us as we came close. My dad would joke "Ah, we can smell your Mothers cooking" and laugh it off, but I could also see it worried him. We would not normally notice the smell living there all the time, but we always noticed it after returning from the fresh air of the St. Sauveur mountains.
The smell wasn't the worst of it. Some days there was a yellow haze through the entire neighbourhood. You could "taste" the smell.
My dad told me that before I was born, that there was a big explosion at the oil refinery that was so hot, it melted all of the snow off the roofs for several of miles around the plant, and that the sky was as bright as a sunset even at 3 in the morning during the fire.
My Dad, my Mom and my sister all died of cancer.
So would I like to live near a Windmill? Fuck yes - I would take that over living near another oil refinery any day. No question man, no question.
