Same thing is going on here. Where I live in the state of Massachusetts, they peg the benefits at over $53k+ a yr between the free housing, EBT cash payments, wic / food stamps etc. How are these uneducated and unskilled people with 3 kids going to find a job making that much?
The politicians pander to these people.
Perfect example: The next city over from me they announced they were tearing down an old housing project and building a new one. The costs - $15 million. So i'm thinking they're building this large complex or something. Nope. 30 townhouses, each at a cost of 500k. Each one equipped with granite counter tops, tile, hardwood floors, state of art technology.
It's mind blowing that they reward these people that have made one terrible life decision after the other with a beautiful home and free gibbs for life. What they should do is make it just a little bit better than homelessness with tents, space heaters, powdered milk etc., so working even a lower wage job will be better than government tents and whatnot. And yeah, the first generation will suffer but I bet the second generation will not want to live life on the government dole and will lift themselves out of poverty.
