I can 100% agree with you on this, amazing. In my travels all around the country, it's quite disgusting to see what the coal industry has done to our beautiful countryside.
They don't dig mines anymore, that requires too much workforce. They instead do strip mining where they simply destroy everything.
With that said.. I did once see a pretty amazing sight somewhere in SD or ND if I recall. There was quite literally a strip mine operation right on the surface, it was a giant dug out area probably less than 100ft underground and it was simply all black. It was like a giant carpet of black coal.
I could only imagine what would happen if that ever sparked off like that underground coal fire that's gone on for years in PA I think..
