Many of you are too young to remember, but before Bill Clinton everyone thought the USA was done. There was hyper inflation, oil crises, very high unemployment and homelessness. It was commonly thought that Japan was buying the country up, and would own it. A quote by the Japanese was "America: half the blocks are filled with empty buildings that we Japanese paid too much for. The other half are burning."
Movies were dystopian and people roved from state to state looking for any work. The deficits ballooned and gas was expensive. As kids we were told that having any job was a privilege, even a menial one. You had to try to get in the army. The inflation adjusted Dow was below its 1965 peak. No one thought there were any solutions.
Five years after Bill Clinton came to power the USA was safe, powerful, and the deficits were almost gone. Before Chimp Bush fucked everything up, the US treasury was going to STOP SELLING THE LONG BOND because we didn't need to borrow any money. The USA had a SURPLUS. The DOW had almost doubled its previous high. Unemployment was low. The 90s was one long party.
I don't care what party you belong to, Clinton had a 65% approval rating. He was the best president we've had in 100 years. The democrats are foolish to repudiate him, and the republicans are stupid to do so.
