It was a great bike.
What happened was.... Steve Lightspeed set sales goal and when we hit it, he would buy us each a motorcycle. He expected us to take years to reach the goal, and it took us like six months. One day he walks in and tells us we have reached the sale goal so... That very day he cut us each a check for $10k cash - There was six or seven of us at the time. Some people used the cash for whatever, but Steve, Tanker, and I went out to buy motorcycles. Out of the three of us I was the only one who had ever owned a motorcycle before. Steve and Tanker went out and bought huge bikes, spending more than the $10k each. I was in the process of buying a house, bought a much smaller bike - a Ninja 500 - and putt the rest of the cash down on the house.
A year later.... Steve and Tanker would pull away from me like I was standing still and it was killing me. When Steve and Tanker were in Europe at a show I walked back into the dealership and said "Remember my friends and me who all bought bikes? I need a motorcycle that will blow them off the road". And they said "The Blackbird is what you want". Then I could pull away from them like they were standing still. It was a blast.
Tanker left Lightspeed Cash and I have no idea what happened to his bike. Steve lost interest in it and it sat in a corner until he eventually got rid of it. I rode my bike daily for years, and also made regular trips from Phoenix to Vegas and LA and even into Mexico a few times. I still have the bike when I moved to California and rode it for a while here. Then I bought the Mustang Cobra and instantly lost all interest in the bike.
Good times though.
(Cool story bro!)
