How China's one-child policy ended in failure

https://www.theguardian.com/world/fr...hive-1979-2016

Successes:
After this policy was issued in China, the insane increase in the population was put to a stop. The birth rate went from 30% down to 10%. The population increase rate went from 40% (1960) down to 11%(2011) . China’s economy improved from poverty and famine to the best economy in the world.

Failures:
One of the major failures of this policy is the ‘little emperor syndrome’. Couple with only one child tends to spoil them and treats them like an ‘emperor’, thus the name. Because the parents know that they can never have a second child, they have even more reason to spoil their child. Many Chinese children are spoiled and are used to being treated like a king and that may be a problem leading into adulthood.

Consequences:
There has been many consequences to this policy. One of the major consequences is the violation of basic human rights. According to a 1968 proclamation of the International Conference on Human Rights, "Parents have a basic human right to determine freely and responsibly the number and the spacing of their children.”

Some people, even with the policy still gets pregnant with their second child. Under these circumstances, the Chinese government hunts them down and forces the women to abort the child, no matter what stage pregnancy they are in.

The balance between young people and old people is tipped. There are many more old people than young people, and that
may effect the country’s development.

The favoritism between female and male have increased. In ancient days, people in China favored the men more than the women, because men could work and make money. After the One Child Policy, the favoritism for men is growing and there has been increasing gender inequality in China.
