I have noticed the same thing for a long time. It's really interesting. You meet a person that believes something. You then present him with facts that should change his mind, or at least make him question those beliefs, but just the opposite happens. People who believe in something seem to double-down when presented with evidence or ideas contrary to those beliefs.
I also notice that no one seems to realize they are doing it, and, I notice that people who are like this seem to answer way too early. You can't see this part on message boards for example, but when talking to my brother by phone, he will contradict ideas contrary to his own faster than answer a question or make a statement but other things. I see this on TV too.
