Granted Reagan did have a extremely strong turn out for his wins but before and even after the was a much more "purple mix across the entire country. The rural maps only changed so much once Republicans started gerrymandering illegally.
I think what matters is turnout. Democrat turnout is up, we know that. Now will the chosen candidate sustain that enthusiasm. I'm a centrist, so technically I should support Biden, but he has a lot of weaknesses. I'd prefer a centrist who can also deliver the black vote, which is 90% democrat.
