These days I wear (progressive) trifocal glasses since anything nearer or farther than about two feet away (typical distance for my desktop monitor) is out of focus. Prior to working on computers, I've aways had perfect 20/20 vision all my life.
I tend to partially blame all the years I've spent post-editting my photography for countless hours every day. My eyes just became accustomed to locking focus at the same distance for very long periods of time.
And for the past year I've been battling chronic ocular migraines with a number of prescription medications - the latest of which is 50mg daily of amitriptyline combined with over-the-counter Exedrins when the ocular visions start. But we haven't figured out 100% whether staring at the computer is a trigger for these.
So yeah, my experience is workin' on a computer creates problems and issues the older I get. I consciously try and take more breaks away from it, though...although it's not always easy.
