thank you for replying and for the manner in which you did
first off, really like that diagram whether you intended it to be positive or not, except for the 'ethnic autonomy' part. not only is that not my own personal lived reality but has their ever been a period in modern history where this was true? we all rely on each other, kinda sharing a planet here and without it I would not be living here listening to DMX right now (I really, really love DMX) in the islands. so yay people not afraid to explore
culture is always changing, the stuff to keep is the best of what we brew up. I don't speak Micmac nor do I look like I should but I def carry Miꞌkmaq heritage (embodied history, rather than culture which is present day stuff) with me
one of the characteristics of Native and Metis cultures is being open to everything, absolutely a Native trait. Metis peeps put it on over-drive. we're curious & questioning people
and half my ancestors put a bounty on the scalps of the ancestors who birthed the peeps who raised me. crazy world
I live my world view (openness and respect for difference and to always ask questions) with kids I supervise when the 'adults' (busy being boring and sitting and drinking or just not wanting to play) as a way to look at the world. it helps that kids listen more to peeps who are not their parents. they don't share my heritage, but get my culture. they reject past prescripts of identity as well. makes no fucking sense to them. as in not what do you look like but what are you doing?
people are never a threat inherently. heritage can always thrive, I am proof of that. no one can ever take that away
