I have a hospital bed but the head doesn’t come straight up, it reclines and I can’t sit up to wash and eat.
I asked for a new bed that goes all the way up straight. Instead they spent five thousand dollars on a bed for fat folks. I’m under two hundred pounds and have never broken a bed, yet they got me this one. Queen-sized with metal frame and auto head and foot riser. Comfy with an air pad overlay on the mattress as my skin has broken down badly on my right hip.
If you qualify for medical aid or the UK equivalent of SSDI, they’ll supply one at no cost. In a fire the bed can be rolled out for your safety. Otherwise, you’d need help getting up and out fast. Your doctor can request one for you as a medical necessity. Safety in a fire or flood or medical emergency. Lifting you up off the floor to get you into an ambulance will require many men and in an emergency, that might not have possible. If they can wheel your bed out, then you can get into the ambulance easier and faster.
You can grab the headboard to assist with rolling over, sitting up and more. Call your doctor and push the fire safety aspect. Easier for ambulance medics, firemen who assist and your health. You’ll sit up and use muscles and it will help your nurse.
The railings help turn over and other things.
