Let's hope so

Id hate for them to miss a trick....
Perfect example on TV recently. 'Years and Years' written by Russell T Davies, who has a great track record in fantastic TV shows. Viewing figures really dropped as the 6 episodes progressed, because people realised all the box ticking. You had a black lesbian with a shaved head, a save the planet environmentalist, one in a wheelchair, a gay couple, one of whom was an illegal refugee etc etc... It really was trying to be all things to all groups and represent EVERY POSSIBLE Demographic... and, as is reality, it just didn't really work.
Then look back at his early work. 'Queer as Folk' - FUCKING FANTASTIC! OK, so if you dont wanna watch something about gay guys, then it's not for you, but it was what it was, a superb snapshot of a group of people, in the late 90s, going about their lives and the dramas that unfolded...
Thing is though, it was great, because it was what it was. It didn't try to be all things to all people and I admire that.
