what is happening with crockett is the same thing that happened to theking. we are hyper social creatures. mammals, when isolated from people suffer a massive and rapid cognitive decline. the first to be affected are the neocortex (the outer layer which, in short, is evolved for managing social relationships) and particularly prefrontal cortex (executive function). this is where his inability to moderate his anger, understand others, empathize etc is coming from.
just like theking.
....more isolation and less social interaction and fewer relationships to actively maintain = more behavioral problems, more mental problems, more bizarre behavior and more overall degradation of the brains critical areas for managing relationships and moderating/controlling behaviors and impulses.
over the years, he's basically gone from;
"i don't agree with you but we are entitled to our opinions"
to
"i don't agree with you because..."
to
"i don't agree with you because you're an asshole"
to
"i don't agree with you because you're all assholes"

"i hate all of you because..."
to
"i hate all of you"
to
"i hate all of you and all of you must be destroyed"
