Most people who are smart if they are trying to live off grid or in a tiny house do it in the "county". IE rural areas with out "city" ordinances. Minimum square footage has been around for a very long time because it helps keep tax income higher and housing prices higher so they get more taxes.. It's nothing new..

In FL and many states they will not give you a occupancy certification unless you are hooked to the power grid.. Meaning any tiny house is illegal if it's not hooked to power. The loop hole in FL & many other places is to keep them on wheels so it's like a travel trailer which is why you see so many on small trailers, because it's often legal to live on your land in the country in a RV, just not in city limits in most places.

I'm more concerned about the issue with being hooked to power than anything else, because with my experience in using solar, I know for 100% fact I could build a off grid house run 100% off solar/battery system.

That's with tech we already have I know I could 100% power a modern smaller house from the sun.. As batteries and panels get better it's only going to become cheaper and easier.. Which means the only purpose for forcing people to stay grid tied is to forcibly tax people into buying electric from a power company in order to subsidize big business and keep the power grids active..

The future should not be about power grids but rather localized power and self sufficiency.
