My sense is that over 15 years ago, Google stopped really counting script links as backlinks. Like i never noticed any of my top sites getting tons of search traffic, but banner exchanges used to be great for backlinks. Affiliate program links don't seem to really count either.
I might just not know how to get the SERPS to view those types of links as backlinks. I am not awesome at SEO in 2019.
