Thommy (of all people) nailed it. You should have opened a paysite/affiliate program AND done what I suggested: tell a good story. Maybe Paul the ex-Pat photographer who scours the world for hot young repressed girls yearning to express their forbidden sexuality. Of COURSE the 'content' is 'crap' - it's meant to be. Putting up a site is not a guaranty of making money, so that's a silly idea.
I was selling to magazines who paid a lot more than online, so didn't care how good or bad my content was. Even in the content stores it was worth more than what exclusive custom Stefan was getting.
Start using logic.
