My divorce lawyer was expensive, but she was worth every penny. A good lawyer will cost you way less than half your shit and alimony and child support. A really good lawyer gets you custody of the kid, no alimony, and a judgement against the ex for the legal fees they brought as well

Of course, being a decent human being and an outstanding father plays a lot into that. The courts aren't going to reward a piece of shit person, even with a good attorney.
