the better method (but also only working with clickid) is a server2server postback.
in practice it looks like this:
letīs say your target url of the site you want to promote looks like this:
targetsite.com/?webmasterID=xxxx&campaignID=yyyy
if you send 1000 users this way and 5 make a signup you just know that some 5 of the made it and you do not know anything more.
with tracking you set up this campaign in a tracking system
this will send the click later to the target site like this
targetsite.com/?webmasterID=xxxx&campaignID=yyyy&clickID=abcdghtd 123jhgd9754khft45
the click id is unique for EACH click
now you send your traffic to your tracker instead sending it directly to the programm
i.e. with
mytracker.com/?campiagn=123456
now your tracker sends the 1st user with
webmasterID=xxxx&campaignID=yyyy&clickID=abcdghtd1 23jhgd9754khft45
the second user with
webmasterID=xxxx&campaignID=yyyy&clickID=p98hbgt54 drthklk876f3fgkfg
and so on.....
as soon as a user signs up the affiliate programm calls a link in your tracker - letīs say it is this
yourtracker.com/tracking/?clickID=abcdghtd123jhgd9754khft45&payout=9.99&eve nt=firstsale
now you do have EVERY information you need because your tracker is tracking every single trackable information about EVERY click (even the ones that did not convert), like country, device, os, browserversion, browserlanguage, origin of the click, used banner and MUCH MUCH MORE.
now you do not only have EXACT information WHO bought - you also know WHO DID NOT BUY - and THIS is the much much much more useful information.
if you send 1000 clicks now and 998 people did NOT buy you can find out the commonality of this traffic.
maybe it came from one specific banner or
from a device the target site can not convert (i.e when the target site is not optimized for mobile) or
it converts mobile but not on IOS or
a specific browser does not work or
the user had another language as the target site expects
and and and
the goal here is to find out what is NOT converting and filter this traffic out by rules and send him somewhere where this traffic converts.
or you simply tell your affiliate program what you find out and let them fix it.
modern trackers are even working with AI here and you can create rules like
if user have seen target 1 already in the last X days, send him to target 2.
i have even made this with an additional module that is checking if a prefered girl (that is a knowing good converter) is online and send the traffic only in time when she is online on this profile.
there is much much more you can do with this kind of tracking rules and if you are ones REALLY familiar with it (what can take years because you need a lot of skills and knowledge about data interpretation) you can easy double or triple up results.
imagine !
if you send 100 users to a page and 1 is buying you made "ONLY" 99% wrong
but this 99% are the bigger number where you can easy find something you can optimize.
if you are able to make only 98% wrong you doubled your result already.
this is the way modern marketing is working since a decade. unfortunately most of the classic porn affiliate programs did not understand that until today.
