In my city I don't need any gun at all, because it's secure to live here. Umm... maybe a knife just for a case, but I have never used it.

Man, which place of California do you live in? That's just absolutely unimaginary for me. The only guys with guns who have knocked my door were police (yes policemen) and they were told to get the fuck out, because if they have no search or arrest warrant they are nobody for us. But some intruder in your house... Uhh... Course you need a gun if you live in such a place. In this situation a shotgun or an assault riffle (a semi-automatic one is ok) might be a better solution IMHO.

Actually it is not. Sometimes it's worth to show a gun to stop someone and don't kill or be killed. Depends on a situation of course. And yes, it works IRL.
P.S. Also you don't need to kill all the time. If you are a good shooter, aim weak points. E.g. knees. Nobody can hurt you w/o a knee, but it won't kill him. Just IMHO again.
